BRIDGE OF SPIES -
Before I went and saw this movie I didn't read any reviews about it or asked what people thought. To be honest, I didn't even know what the movie was about until I sat down to watch it and had the 2 sentence introduction. I still don't know what others thought about the movie and I don't care because I LOVED this movie. It is already in my movie library and will be watched again for sure.
I had no idea about this man or the events that happened. His story was captivating and brought a lot into perspective for me. Of course I knew about the Berlin Wall and it's history, but this movie made it realistic for me. It showed the events that were happening in the US when the wall was going up. That was one of the things that I loved, showing the back and forth between each country. Pointing out the differences of lives, what other had to go through, it was amazing. One of the scenes that comes to mind immediately is the differences on how the prisoners were treated. One was woken up with water, never aloud to sleep, tortured. The other gently woken up and even helped up out of bed.
I would recommend this movie for everyone. My husband loved it enough to want to use it in his history curriculum for his high school class. In my option go see this movie at least once. It is long but it will be worth your time.
THE REVENANT -
Over the weekend I went and saw this movie ... wow ... that is all I can say. I left not knowing what exactly to feel or think after the movie. It definitely leaves you wanting to talk about what you just saw, which is not bad. There were a few things that needed some improvements. Now don't get me wrong I thought the movie was amazing and I can see why Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for an oscar (crossing my fingers he wins, because it's about time). The length of the movie was long, very long. That was one thing that I thought could have been changed. Some of the shots seemed to last beyond what they should and took away from the flow, but again that was the artistic intention. On the other hand... as a photographer... I appreciated the longer time on certain shots for selfish reasons. But for a motion picture film, the time should have been cut a little shorter.
Now going back to the shots or still frames in this film, they were absolutely beautiful! There were many shots taken that you could almost pull from the film and you would have an amazing photograph.
Overall I'm glad I went and saw this film. The story was riveting and kept you on the end of your seat. And for some reason I felt like I could never get warm... :) Again I would recommend this film to watch ... but for me it's one that I don't think I would watch again.
